Free entry framework for all EU member states

Greece - like most European Union (EU) countries - has signed the Schengen Agreement, which allows for the abolition of systematic border controls between the participating countries. Border posts and checks have been removed between Schengen countries and a common 'Schengen visa' allows tourist or visitor access to the area. Therefore Greece offers a free entry framework for all Mediterranean countries that are also members of the EU. The Mediterranean countries that are not EU members will have to be informed for the procedure of visa issuing for entry to the country.

Accreditation

All athletes that will visit Greece for their participation to the Mediterranean Games must go through the Accreditation process. This procedure will be caried through the respective National Olympic Committee of the athlete delegation in collaboration with the Organising Committee. Accreditation is the process through which Games participants obtain access rights to specific areas of the competition venues and other facilities, in order to perform their work.

Additionally  all members of the Mediterranean Family and their Guests, the total of the games workforce and volunteers  will go through the Accreditation process. The accreditation card is issued by the Organising Committee and is granted to those entitled after a background check by the local or international authorities.

All applicants for the Accreditation card for the Mediterranean Games Volos 2013 will be served in time and without any complication. Additionally, this process will use modern technlology in order to ensure the security and protection of personal data of all accredited population. Detailed information for the launch of this process will be provided at a later stage of the preparation of the games.

Doping control

Doping is a universal, multidimensional, social phenomenon. We are committed to a close cooperation with WADA in order to perform controls before the Games without prior notice, as well as during the Games. Greece already possesses a Medical Laboratory for doping control which is located in Athens and is certified by the IOC and WADA. This allows for the doping control to be activated within 24 hours, instead of sending the samples to other countries with certified laboratories for testing.

Preventive information will be sent in good time to all National Delegations in order to promptly advise the coaches, athletes and team escorts regarding the rigorous controls and regulations applicable to the Mediterranean Games of 2013.

In broader terms, we are eager to address the phenomenon of doping and willing to cooperate with all anti-doping participant agents towards preventing doping from the Games. Furthermore, it is our intention to develop educational programmes to inform all athletes participating in the Games of the risks of illegal substances use and to also talk to the school age population of the wider region that will host the 2013 Mediterranean Games.
