Games Support

Local support

The populations of Volos and Larissa, as well as residents of the entire Thessaly region where the two cities are located, are eager to welcome the 2013 Games and to provide excellent hosting conditions for all athletes, spectators and visitors. The local population has witnessed a considerable expansion of sports activities, encompassing all age groups. Indeed, the Thessaly region is bestowed with a great sports heritage that gave rise to a number of athletes, who often attained high ranks in the Olympic Games, in World or European Championships and other sports events.

The Mediterranean Games of 2013 will be the games of the public, of local clubs and citizens who will participate widely. It is worth highlighting the participation of numerous volunteers coming from this region, who offered their services during the 2004 Olympic Games for the Olympic Football Tournament Qualification Round that took place in Volos in the summer of 2004 and who are eager to be mobilized again in view of this wonderful upcoming event.

Business community support

The Olympic Games of 2004 enhanced the interest of Greeks in important sport events and increased the confidence shown by the local and international business world in the power of sport marketing. Indeed, the 2004 Olympics attracted extremely large sums of money and offered to all businesses involved equally important benefits. Part of the legacy of the Games has been a qualified team of executives with great experience, specialised knowledge and expertise that covers all the needs of organising the Mediterranean Games, including the Marketing sector.

Utilizing this experience, the Organising Committee of the 2013 Mediterranean Games, in cooperation with the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG), will present to the international and Greek business community an innovative, well structured and comprehensive Marketing Programme adapted to the current international economic environment requirements. The focus of this programme will be the communication benefits and opportunities obtained by the association with the Mediterranean Games, which can offer the necessary differentiation in an intensely competitive market, so that all sponsors involved may expand their activities and/or become leaders in the markets of the countries throughout the Mediterranean Basin in three continents.

Through their Marketing Programme, the Organisers aim to secure the financial resources, support, products, services and technical expertise necessary for the organizational success of the 2013 Games; also to promote, raise the awareness, reposition and enhance the image and the role of the Mediterranean Games and the International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) ensuring at the same time the best possible returns on the sponsorship investment of all partners involved. Along with marketing efforts, a qualitative Licensing Programme will be developed, that will promote the look and image of the Games. Further planned actions include development and promotion of the Ticketing Programme as well as securing additional revenues through a Philatelic Programme and other marketing activities.

We are confident that we will attract great local and international business support; our confidence is reinforced by the moral but also significant financial contribution provided by a great number of corporations and institutions to the Bid Committee Volos-Larissa 2013; thus indicating the continuous support and confidence of the business community to sports marketing related events and actions.
